Hi there! I am Tara and I am an artist and art instructor living in the wilds of Maine. ***Update: We are moving back to NY!***
I have been making art all my life, but it never came easy to me. I believed, like a lot of people seem to, that to be a good artist, you have to be born with some sort of innate talent. I didn’t seem to have that and for a long time I just figured I wasn’t good enough.
When I began to train people through my tech job, I realized that just like learning to use technology, there are steps that have to happen before other steps, and there are common processes that once you learn them in one app or program, you can figure it out in another. I apply those same principles to teaching art. And I explain why it is better to do something one way rather than another, so you can begin to understand the WHY behind artistic processes.
My classes are a judgement-free zone where there are no stupid questions, and where all creation is celebrated. My goal is to meet you where you are in your art journey, and to help you get where you want to be. I did it and you can too.
All of my classes are currently on a website called Skillshare. Think of Skillshare like the Netflix of arts and crafts classes. Really there is so much more than that, like video-editing, baking, and even meditation. For a yearly subscription you can take as many classes you like, as often as you like. And there is almost always a free trial available so you can try a class and see if the format works for you. This is my link to all my classes and if any free trials are going on, this link should get you in: Tara’s Classes On Skillshare.
One of the things I love about online classes is that unlike in-person classes, you never have to worry about the weather, or if you don’t feel up to the class on a given day. The classes on Skillshare are available to you 24/7, and you can pause them, speed them up, slow them down, and go at your own pace, all from the comfort of your own home. Or anywhere, with the mobile app. And you have access to the instructors for feedback, questions, and lots of free goodies. Give it a try!
That being said, eventually I hope to start teaching in person classes again once I find a venue. I love interacting in real time with my students, and seeing the joy on their faces as they leave a class bursting with inspiration to go home and create more.
Arts and crafts classes can be a great team-building activity. If you want to hire me to hold a class for your business, club, or organization, simply scroll down to the form below and send me a message.
